Hi Frank,
Those are pre-printed linens for hand embroidery work. You are right about them being from around the 50s. Usually they were available to make table runners, dresser scarves, chair carm covers, etc. You could get them at the 5 and 10 and at department stores. Yours says "Buffet set" whcih was used in the dining room on the table and side board. Very cool find. :)

Hi all. I have some old fabrics with a printed designs on them(guessing the 50's) and are not sure what they are. If anyone can go to my profile and look at the pics of them and tell me what they are I would really appreciate the help.

I have white, black and grey embroidery thread. Generally, I use whichever matches the main colors of the design the best. And like Betty, I don't change my bobbin thread in the middle of a design.

Hello Jessica, No.... Save yourself some headaches..I just got my embroidery machine. I was told that you use the white bobbin thread for all your light, bright and primary colors and for your darker colors like black, browns and navy blues to use black bobbin thread.
I have done complete designs and never changed my bobbin thread. However
do keep an eye on your bobbin thread in between designs so it does not run out.
If you do run out of bobbin thread your machine should tell you and it should stop, and you remove the hoop replace with and full bobbin and let your machine continue where it left off.
Also, be sure to use the embroidery bobbin thread. Hope this helps.

When changing thread colors for a machine embroidery design, do I need to change bobbin color as well? If so, how do I get back to the correct starting position for the design??

I'm an embroiderer by trade and specialize in Irish Step dance costuming. I have 3 commercial machines -- 2 Happy/Texmac 15-thread single heads and a Baby Lock Ellegante. The Happys are for work, the Baby Lock for fun :) I own commercial-grade digitizing software but find that Bernina V5 is a worthy competitor to my $10,000 program. Happy to help with questions. :)
